On Location: Shame

Shame (2011)
Location:
The Standard New York
848 Washington Street, New York, NY,
United States

So apparently it is a little more than just an urban myth that some guests of the Standard hotel enjoy displaying themselves in the windows… during acts of sex.
The hotel room at the Standard was one part of the film I really enjoyed.  Where Brandon took Marianne (during work time!) for a little intimacy. I was holding my breath hoping that Brandon would finally overcome his problem and enjoy a true relationship. Sadly, no. It just ended up with another public display of sex.

Watched In: May

May was a great month for me.  Since April was filled with studying and writing finals I was glad for the arrival of May.  Usually during the school semester, if I am lucky I can squeeze in a flick or two.  So you see I was pretty excited to be done with school and watch all these movies I've  planning to watch some time ago.  Without further ado here is my Watched In: May.

The Stool Pigeon (2010)

Beginners (2010)

The Skin I Live In (2011)

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

Grave of the Fireflies (1988)

Poetry (2010)

Drive (2011)

J. Edgar (2011)

I didn't get a chance to hit the theatres last month, unfortunately.  It seemed like The Avengers was all the hype.  I'm looking forward to watching Moonrise Kingdom this month though.  I shall be posting some movie reviews very soon.  What have you guys seen in the past month?  Any suggestions for the month of June?

I know you guys are dying to play paper doll with our dear Ryan Gosling.  Well, here you have it!  All the essentials from Drive are present in this clever cut out doll of "The Driver".  Whether you prefer to have him in his scorpion jacket crisp clean or blood stained the choice is yours.

Studio Ghibli: Watchlist

I always tell others that I am a big fan of Studio Ghibli.  However I am quite ashamed to admit that I've watched only a fraction of their films.  The first one I remember clearly was Spirited Away in my grade six classroom and more recently The Secret World of Arrietty (my first Ghibli film in theatre I might add!).  So I think it would only be fair that I give all the other Ghibli films a go (before calling myself a true fan).  I don't think this will be much of a challenge since I know it'll be such a pleasure watching these beautiful animations.

List of Studio Ghibli Feature Films

NausicaƤ of the Valley of the Wind* (1984)
Laputa: Castle in the Sky (1986)
Grave of the Fireflies (1988)
My Neighbor Totoro (1988)
Kiki's Delivery Service (1989)
Only Yesterday (1991)
Porco Rosso (1992)
Ocean Waves (1993)
Pom Poko (1994)
Whisper of the Heart (1995)
Princess Mononoke (1997)
My Neighbors the Yamadas (1999)
Spirited Away (2001)

Tales from Earthsea (2006)
Ponyo (2008)
The Secret World of Arrietty (2010)
From Up on Poppy Hill (2011)

(titles that are in bold are the films I have watched; needless to say I've got a long way to go)

About Jack Russell

Go and have experiences with your own people. I’ll be right here… I’m a human. I’m not a dog… And you’re a Jack Russell and that’s a breed… Your personality was created by this guy John Russell, who was a hunting enthusiast in the 1800’s. And he bred your ancestors for their stamina and their courage for the hunt. You think you’re you and you want to chase the foxes, but… other people planted that in you years ago. And now somewhat arbitrarily you’re considered very cute by us humans. And we keep breeding you not to chase foxes, but to be cute. And we put you in television shows, and movies, and you’re chasing tennis balls because they’re as close to a fox as you’re gonna get.
